Aegean Airlines Business Class: Athens to the Greek Islands

Aegean Airlines is Greece’s flag carrier and a Star Alliance member. It does not fly to the US, so for most of our travelers Aegean is the second part of the trip. You fly Business Class across the Atlantic to Athens, then take a short Aegean flight to Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, or elsewhere in Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean.

What Aegean Business Class offers, and what you shouldn't except

Aegean flies Airbus A320neo-family aircraft on routes across Greece, Europe, and the Eastern Mediterranean. Its Business Class follows the standard European short-haul format. You get the same seat as economy, but the middle seat stays empty, and a curtain separates the cabin.

So you should not expect a lie-flat bed. On a 45-minute flight to Mykonos, though, the seat matters less than what surrounds it: faster check-in and security, lounge access in Athens, a proper meal, and more baggage. Your lie-flat seat is on the transatlantic flight, and we choose that flight carefully.

Getting from the US to Athens

All US nonstop flights to Greece land in Athens. None fly directly to the islands. Here are your main options:

• New York (JFK): This airport has the most Athens flights and the widest choice of airlines.

• Newark, Washington Dulles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Dallas–Fort Worth, Atlanta, and Boston: These airports have nonstop flights, mostly from spring to fall.

• Other US cities: These connect through a European or Gulf hub, then continue on Aegean.

When it makes sense, we pair Aegean with a Star Alliance airline across the Atlantic. Keeping both flights in the same alliance makes lounge access and bag transfers simpler on connection day. When another airline gives you a better schedule or fare, we will explain the trade-off.

Where Aegean takes you from Athens

• Greek islands: Santorini, Mykonos, Crete (Heraklion and Chania), Rhodes, Corfu, and many smaller islands.

• Eastern Mediterranean: Cyprus and other regional cities.

• Europe: Major European cities, which helps if you are visiting more than one city.

A flight to the islands takes under an hour, compared with several hours on a ferry. That matters if you have limited time or are traveling with older family members.

Is Aegean Business Class right for your trip?

It is a good fit if you are going on to an island or another regional city after Athens, carrying more luggage, or want lounge access while you connect. It matters less if Athens is your final stop, or if your connection is very short and you are mainly paying for the empty middle seat.
